Joy Van SkiverJoy Van Skiver, president of The Writing Exchange, founded the company in 1978 with a strong commitment to work with business professionals on their own writing. This commitment is still the hallmark of our organization, even as we place a strong emphasis on e-mail.

In 1986, Burt Spielman joined the company as vice president. After 20 years of experience as an engineer in the chemical industry, Burt transferred his talents and skills to the design and execution of all our training materials.

Proof of Results
Our objective approach to business writing produces measurable results. We proved that with a company whose customers had rated its written communication 2.3 on a 5.0 scale. After several of our writing workshops over a six-month period, the score in that category improved to 4.5.

Training Philosophy
We consider business writing a skill, not an art. Because we use an easy-to-understand, practical and codified method of analyzing your writing—our Icon-based Analytical System™—you’re able to apply your new skills immediately. Attendees tell us they benefit from our writing analysis long after the seminar. And managers report that they need to spend less time editing their subordinates’ writing.

We believe in using your time effectively. Our seminars are packed with solid information, not fluff. People often tell us they learn more from us in a morning than they do in three days at other writing programs.
