In this core seminar, you learn ten specific guidelines that help you gain control over your everyday business correspondence. Practicing on your own letters, e-mails, memos and reports gives you a clear understanding of strengths and weaknesses you have in organization, clarity, style and tone.
The Write Start is offered as a one-day public seminar once a month in New York or as an on-site program for a group of people, typically 12 to 16. An on-site seminar can include an extra day for individual coaching.
Our Most Popular Course Format — A two-day seminar with small group sessions This format produces the best results without requiring a great commitment of time. Each person spends only a day and a half away from the job. The time devoted exclusively to the participants’ writing is almost four hours.
Day One — Workshop Our consultant facilitates an interactive workshop where you use one page of your own writing as a benchmark to track your progress. At the end of the day, you determine three specific steps you can take to improve your writing.
Day Two — Coaching You attend either a morning or afternoon Writing Workout session. Just as a guided exercise program helps individuals develop a routine to keep them in shape, our Writing Workout helps you build new writing habits. You practice by rewriting your own on-the-job documents, and you create new models for the writing you do every day. Our consultant is there as a coach to talk with you about your writing.
Other Formats
One Day Our one-day seminar gives you the information required to improve your writing effectiveness. People are amazed they can learn so much in such a short time. One hour is devoted exclusively to your own writing.
Custom Design If you have special scheduling needs, we will work with you to find the best course structure. Our material is designed to be flexible so that we can break up our seminars into modules if necessary.

How We Focus on You
Business Writing Audits This two–page checklist doesn’t require much time to complete. Before you attend the seminar, it gives you a chance to evaluate your own writing and to let us know what you want to accomplish. Our consultant uses this information to tailor each seminar to the needs and objectives of the people attending.
Personal Action Plans Our written review of your on-the-job writing shows you exactly how to write more effectively. You send us five sample pages or e-mails before the seminar, and we prepare a Personal Action Plan offering specific suggestions and extensive comments. Seminar attendees place a high value on this “personal prescription.” We often hear the comment, “Now I understand what to do with my writing.”
